Eagles drop Obiora Nwankwo for Olympic tie

The coaches of the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Under-23s have reached an agreement for Italy-based defensive midfielder Obiora Nwankwo to step down from the country’s full international team and feature in an Olympic qualifier later this month.
Officials told MTNFootball.com that Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, Wednesday agreed to release Nwankwo as well as AC Milan left winger Nnamdi Oduamadi to the U23s for a qualifying match against Equatorial Guinea a day before the Eagles Nations Cup tie against Ethiopia.
Siasia has called up both players for the Ethiopia clash and he has now replaced Nwankwo with Heartland midfielder Julius Ubido.
Nwankwo and Oduamadi would now train with the Eagles for at least two days before they would be release to join the U- 23 national team in Benin.
The reason for this, MTNFootball.com learnt, was for the players to familiarise themselves with the other players in the full international team before they join up with the U23s in Benin City.
Coach of the U-23s, Augustine Eguavoen, has also called up Monaco midfielder Lukman Haruna for the clash against Equatorial Guinea on March 26 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
Other foreign-based pros called up are Kennedy Nwagaga, Daniel Uchechi (Leicester/England), Nurudeen Orelesi (Regiana/Italy), Edet Ibok (Spain) and goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye (Spain).
