Siasia targets 2012 Afcon

Nigeria head coach Samson Siasia has declared that his first and major aim is to ensure that his team qualify to the 2012 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Siasia told SuperSport.com that he recognises the importance of Nigeria’s Super Eagles featuring in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations as a bigger assignment than any other at the moment.“For all of us and even the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Super Eagles should be part of the 2012 Nations Cup and that is why we have started work towards that process,” began Siasia.
“We have the resources in terms of players to qualify for the Nations Cup next year ahead of the others in our group.”
Nigeria trail West African opponents, Guinea in Group B of the qualifiers for the 2012 championship but Siasia is confident that his side can overturn that lead and win the group. The men’s national team of Nigeria will face their Ethiopian counterparts in March this year in the ongoing qualifiers for next year’s edition of the Nations Cup.
Siasia said the home game against Ethiopia is uppermost in the mind of his team.
“We are looking forward and preparing for the game against Ethiopia. March is not such a long time from now and we are putting in our best to prepare for that game because that is the first step in the qualifying series since I took charge of the national team,” he said.
Siasia said he is keen to see the Super Eagles put up an impressive run in the qualifiers of the Africa Cup of Nations.
