Vice President of the South African Football Association Danny Jordaan, says the country will bid for the 2014 Club World Cup.
Jordaan was speaking after South Africa was awarded hosting rights for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He said it is important that Africa stages major tournaments, including the Club World Cup - the contest between leading teams from across the globe.
"We are going to continue to talk to Fifa about [2014]," Jordaan told BBC Sport.
"It's important that these competitions come to Africa."
Jordaan, who was South Africa 2010 World Cup CEO, said plans are already at an advanced stage to present a bid to Fifa.
"We are between 'seriously considering it' and taking a decision," he added.
"Of course we cannot take that decision outside the context of further engagement with Fifa."
Jordaan presided over what many agree was a successful World Cup in South Africa and is keen to build on that progress.
During its executive committee meeting in Lubumbashi, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced that Morocco will host the Nations Cup in 2015, while the 2017 edition will take place in South Africa.
