Stephen Keshi Release Six Home Players
That effectively rules out the players from those who are likely to make the trip to Kigali when Nigeria face Rwanda in a 2012 Afcon qualifier on February 29.
Keshi told the released players that they will be recalled for two upcoming friendly matches being planned by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in April.
The released players are Henry Uche (Enyimba), Uche Oguchi, Kingsley Salami and Kabir Umar (Heartland), Precious Osasco Omoma (Sunshine Stars) and Daniel Essien Etor (Niger Tornadoes).
Keshi said the decision to release the players was done reluctantly.
“It was a painful decision, but it must be done for the sake of the nation and because we have our brothers coming from Europe, but it’s not to say the players are not good, they are very okay and we’ll call upon them soon again when we have friendlies lined up for the national team,” Keshi said.
The players have since left camp for their respective clubs and Keshi said he would continue to monitor their activities.
Meanwhile, the 16 players left in camp trained on Friday morning.
