Montpellier have signed Nigeria striker John Utaka from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old, who spent five years in France after joining Lens in 2002, has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal. He has struggled at Portsmouth ever since joining them from Rennes for a reported £7m in 2007, having scored just seven goals in that time.
Utaka, who has also played in Qatar and Egypt, had a contract with Portsmouth until 2012.
Montpellier are eighth in the French first division but have managed only 17 goals in 20 games this season.
He could make his debut in next weekend's game against St Etienne.
