In a press release signed by the NPL acting executive secretary Tunji Babalola and made available to SuperSport.com, the organisation stated that as a ‘responsible corporate citizen’ it has resolved to review the entire bidding process and the subsequent agreement over the title sponsorship of the Nigeria premier league early awarded to Total Promotion/MTN Nigeria which is being hotly challenged by Globacom. The Wednesday’s NPL resolution on the title sponsorship agreement read thus:
“That after a careful and critical review of the bidding process for the award of the title sponsorship of the Nigeria premier league, it has come to the realization that due process was not materially followed in the award and the subsequent execution of the title sponsorship agreement dated 24th December, 2010.
“Consequently as a responsible corporate citizen, the NPL has resolved to review the entire bidding process and the subsequent agreement over the title sponsorship of the Nigeria premier league.
“On the strength of the foregoing, the NPL has resolved to re-start the whole process including the bid process and the agreement. The NPL will in due course make available to prospective interested persons new guidelines which will serve ensure that due process and transparency are followed,” it stated.
